The former CIO of Services Australia, Michael McNamara is taking the helm at the newly established Digital Victoria. He will play a key role in the revival of the state’s looming digital economy, ensure smooth deliverance of online services and good customer feedback.

The recently set up Victorian digital transformation agency, Digital Victoria, announced last week that it has named Michael McNamara as its new Chief Executive Officer, a position he will assume by the end of September. McNamara has been appointed by the Andrew Labor Government to centralise and simplify information technology services across the government. Propelling Digital Victoria’s mission, he will lead the growth of the state’s digital economy, improving the customer experience, and delivering more online services to all Victorians. In the interim, Acting CEO Vivien Allimonos will continue with his position.

Digital Victoria was founded in November last year, financed by a $195.9 million investment. The intent was to centralise and simplify the Government’s IT services, and make it faster. The eventual aim is also to reduce costs and improve delivery of services to Victorians. Danny Pearson, Minister for Government Services believes that McNamara is an outstanding leader who will bring his extensive public, corporate and international experience to his new role as the CEO of Digital Victoria. Before joining Digital Victoria, he was the Chief Information Officer for the Commonwealth agency Services Australia.

Known for his extensive experience in private and public sector technology leadership roles, McNamara has worked in the financial services and energy sectors. He was also key in leading ANZ’s workplace experience transformation. He has a record of delivering digital and technology transformation; he will also be heading the new group established within the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
